Weekend Getaway: EAST COAST GUIDE

⚡️ Listen While Scrolling: Cocoon- Milky Chance ⚡️

In the midst of a chaos filled summer “vacation”, I decided the best thing to do was take a much needed stay-cation. Or in other words, a weekend trip to the Cape (Cape Cod, MA) and the tiny island of Nantucket.

Packing for these trips are nearly impossible because something urges me to bring my entire closet, rather than just the outfits needed for the days that I am there. Packing pro tip, don’t overpack. So, after putting together my outfits for the 3-days, our road trip had officially commenced.

Outfit 1: Low Tides

My daily routine was simple, yet, oh so complicated - a paradox. It consisted of waking up early to work part-time or finish a homework assignment, study, run errands, etc. etc., and ending my day at 3am. Your daily life to-dos that I insisted on making difficult. The first day we arrived at the Cape, I think I was FINALLY able to sigh a deep breath of relief. I laid down in the warm sand at a beach near our hotel. There is something so relaxing about hearing waves crash against the seashell filled sand, smelling salty ocean water, and containing zero thoughts in your head. The overcast weather made it perfect for our family photo-op too.

Although the weather was overcast, it didn't stop the sun from peaking through- and the rain clouds too. A denim jacket accompanied me the entire trip in case of the constant weather inconsistencies. After the beach relaxation time was over, it was only necessary to stop somewhere to eat. My mother and I were able to consume a half dozen of oysters in about 2.6 seconds, maybe 3? Overall, day one of my stay-cation was a success and I was somehow able to end the day with loads of homework. However, motivation levels were high because tomorrow was reserved for the island of Nantucket.

Outfit 2: Nama(stay) in Nantucket

🐟

At 11 in the morning, we set off on our Nantucket excursion. Or as the locals call it, ACK. After completing my final I was able to dive in deep to relaxation mode. If I understood anything from being in Nantucket for less than a day, it would probably be their mantra of, "just relax". Just about everything closed around 6ish pm everyday. When we asked the locals why, they simply said it was because "we take things easy here." Perfectly said. A tip that sometimes we all should take into consideration.

As we strolled down the cobblestone roads, I discovered a small shop with unique and local patches cluttering every open space available on the walls. I also noticed that I had a light-wash denim jacket that could use some patches. After designing my ACK jacket, the employee of the shop, Cheryl Fudge, stitched them together in less than an hour. Giving up my jacket was also a perfectly good excuse to buy myself a new sweater (lol). It is not pictured, but pop the collar and there is a lighthouse patch. On the other side of the jacket there is a vintage print paired with a seashell patch. The sleeve of the arm has a patch that says "Nantucket" across it and the pink patch is a Nantucket beach permit, so cool!

Outfit 3: The Kennedy Compound

🌊

My father, a lover of history, planned a day in Barnstable, where the Kennedy Compound resides. Much like the rest of the vacation days, it was once again overcast. However, that did not dampen my mood at all. The environment of the neighborhood was the epitome of the East Coast lifestyle. I had to be dragged off the beach because there was no way I wanted this perfect moment to escape me.

We once again soaked our feet into the warm sand and lifted our faces up to the salty air. The beach was practically empty, which created our own little private beach. A lucky treat for coming just before the busy summer season. I can confidently say it was a perfect end to a perfect stay-cation. The only sad thing about this day was the fact that we had to leave.

I've learned something very important in just a few days, the power of being able to let loose, relax, and be okay with literally doing nothing. A concept that myself and others find hard to come to terms with. Sometimes, you just have to treat yourself. We may spend our lives crossing off items on our overpacked to-do lists or drowning in the chaos of work and school. Although I still had deadlines to meet whilst on vacation, I made it more of a priority to enjoy my time, and enjoy life’s happenings within the moment. These small moments come and go with the blink of an eye, so why not stop and enjoy it.
